What's The Difference?
Hey there Beauty B's!
After all my years in the industry I get this question over and over and over. I finally decided that I want to really break it down and help clear up some things for so many out there. In the beauty world it is hard to keep up with the constant trends, and newness that always coming out. Keep this is mind, the cosmetic industry is an ever changing industry that is constantly changing to keep up with the trends, and the times. One thing for the last few years has been consistent and that is the confusion of: What's a B.B. Cream?, What's a C.C Cream, What's a tinted moisturizer, and the biggest question what's the difference between them all. Below I am going to break down what each one is which will show you what they are and after reading you should be able to know and understand the difference. Also I am putting them in order of coverage and skin care benefits. I think with this it will help you out a bit and you may have some much needed clarity.
Well as one of my favorite musicals say, "Let's Start At The Very Beginning, A Very Good Place To Start." Well we shall begin with:
Tinted Moisturizer
A tinted moisturizer is going to have less pigment than a foundation and for most brands the least amount of coverage than a B.B Cream and a C.C. Cream. I want everyone to also keep in mind that the word moisturizer is in the word meaning that this product has hydration properties. Many of the tinted moisturizers on the market these days will have SPF in them also. However you should still try to use SPF first because often times people don't properly cover themselves and miss spots that truly should be protected from the sun. Another great feature is that many tinted moisturizers have anti-oxidant properties which means they will keep your skin fresh and young looking. I will leave you with this also, tinted moisturizers have a great shade range and are really great for someone that wants minimal coverage. It's more to give a polished soft natural look. Fair warning this product is not the best for those with oily skin.
Well let's move on and step up our game.
B.B Cream or Beauty Balm
First off we have to thank our friends in Asia for bringing this trend to the world. They were ahead of many on this beauty trend and then it spread like wild fire. A B.B. Cream is going to be a step up from a tinted moisturizer. Yes, they are light weight but have a lot more pigment than a tinted moisturizer does. There are skin benefits to a B.B. Cream such as a serum, moisturizer, primer, and SPF, however the shade spectrum tends to be very limited. I will also say that many makeup artists have started to not use B.B. Creams on many of their clients as it seems the trend isn't as big as it used to be like in 2010 when it really hit the beauty world. In fact I have seen less and less beauty balms than I used to in the more prestigious cosmetic lines. They are great and simple to use but one word of advice........if you decide to use a B.B. Cream use a Beauty Blender, or a Brush to apply you makeup. Please do not use your fingers. You are going to have a streaky application and you are putting oils onto your face from your fingertips.
Finally we reach the top of the pyramid like Abby Lee Miller would say!
C.C. Cream or Color Corrector
Once again we can thank our friends from Asia and Europe for giving the world the C.C. Cream or Color Corrector. This is going to work almost like a light weight foundation meaning this has more coverage than the previous two I have mentioned. C.C Creams are suppose to work well to cover the redness in skin, and to help with pigmentation issues. Often times you can find Vitamin C, Salicylic Acid, and color correcting properties. Keep in mind that they do tend to have SPF also which is essential these days however, I suggest and so do many other people you put on a moisturizer with SPF first to start the day. Fair warning that these tend to be thicker and I strongly suggest using a Beauty Blender, or a Flawless Complexion Brush by Pur Cosmetics.
So Beauty B's you have the basics and should now have a better understanding and some better clarity about what's on the market. These are all great for summer or the gal on the go. I know I keep saying this but we have to start trying to love our SKIN. Beauty By Mike recommends either a tinted moisturizer, or C.C. Cream for all of you out there. Personally I have been over the B.B. Cream for a very long while now.

-Don't make me close one more door
I don't want to hurt anymore
Stay in my arms if you dare
Or must I imagine you there
Don't walk away from me
I have nothing, nothing, nothing
If I don't have you, you, you, you, you
