Light, Medium, Dark......I Don't Think So!

Hey Beauty B's!

I am in a SHADY mood today and am casting more shade than the the Empire State Building casts on a sunny summer day. Well I have worked for Sephora, and actually worked for Benefit in Macy's and for years have had the same problem with the brand. When I first started working for Sephora it was put in an area where there is a large population of clients that fight a darker shade range than Benefit carried. Guess what.....my first few days working we had an event for Benefit Cosmetics and had to apply foundations and eye shadows from that brand. You want to talk about disaster! I mean really this was like 7 years ago, and still 7 years later they have the same issue. When I applied foundation last year when working for Benefit I coined the phrase the "BA"......meaning the Benefit Ash. I tend to have a wide spectrum of clients but I was given a goal and had to try to fit my clients into that product line and never could. I hate to say I gave up, but I gave up. No one seemed to listen to me or consider my struggle. Granted I sold the heck out of every other brand but why? What's a main staple in a Beauty B's makeup collection......yep you guessed it foundation or complexion product. Benefit is really hurting themselves and not setting their employees up for success. At the end of this I'll break down the numbers and you will see my point of view. If they worked with my idea and really sat down and thought it through they could reach a bigger market and the company could really grow in the complexion area. Sure they are SLAYING it on BROWS but guy's build you brand even more......if you build it they will come. Here's my beef:

Concealer:

1.) Bo-ing industrial strength concealer- this is an oldie but goodie and really does work but guys three shades really.
-Light, Light/Medium, and Medium....... Basically saying light medium or dark and really cuts the market short on this amazing concealer.
2.)Bo-ing Airbrush Concealer- This one is newer to me and I haven't used it but it's the same issue as the original Bo-ing.
-Light, Light/Medium, and Medium.
3.)Bo-ing Brightening Concealer- same issue and this one would fly off the shelves these days as it's a full coverage concealer.
-Light, Light/Medium, and Medium.
4.)Bo-ing Hydrating Concealer- I am guessing that this replaced fake-up which for some reason I liked the design of that particular concealer for spot treatments and for in between the brows when my brow lady goofs, this one is more light-weight so more natural for the everyday Beauty B......if you fit.
-Light, Light/Medium, Medium.

Foundation:

1.) The Big Easy B.B. Cream- I have actually worked with this product and the issue big time was the undertones. Even for the lighter complexions I consistently had a problem. It did have this velvet soft powder finish to it which I did like when I could match it to a client. Sadly I never could match it for myself without having to warm it up a lot with three bronzers to balance it perfectly. Great for oily skin but you are missing a big market here. 5 shades. Really.
-Light,Light/Medium,Medium,Beige,Deep Beige
2.)Hello Flawless! Foundation Powder- I actually liked this product for myself and the three clients I was able to match. I liked the finish but I did on a lot of dark shade range give the "Benefit Ash".....and they only had nine shades. Major bummer as the packaging is designed so perfectly for travel.
-Ivory,Petal,Champagne,Honey,Beige,Toasted Beige, Amber, Hazelnut, and Nutmeg.
3.) Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow! Liquid Foundation- I am going to be honest from day one like I am talking 7 years ago I had a love hate relationship with this foundation. The undertones aren't the greatest, the shades are horrible, and when it comes to darker skin tones you can't match. The price of the foundation is reasonable and a lot of first time girls I like to use this on, but if they could just expand the shade range it could really take off especially with younger girls just starting to get into makeup. The packaging is cute, and the ingredients aren't too bad for the skin. 9 shades of colors though. Really for liquid foundation you still have expanded after all these years!
-Ivory,Champagne,Honey,Beige,Toasted Beige, Amber,Hazelnut, Nutmeg

So really when you think about it.....what about the rest of the world. You have brow shades that cater to a wide demographic, why not step up the complexion game. Also get your name out there more. I have talked to a lot of every day people that will spend on quality cosmetics and they have never heard of your brand before. You have a lot of major cities your brand is not able to target because of your limited shade range.

Sorry Benefit I still love you for other products though......maybe it's time you brought some fresh faces to your team to take you up a step. You're a fun brand and I liked working for you but it was hard to reach goals within a small shade spectrum in my area.

xoxo Beauty B's!
